Engineering Technician (Civil) at Fort Polk

JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position: 

The surrounding community of Fort Polk is comprised of the towns of Leesville, DeRidder, New Llano and Anacoco. The nearest cities are Alexandria (45 miles northeast) and Lake Charles (55 miles south). The area is considered rural with Kisatchie National Forest, which offers hunting and recreational activities located nearby. Also, located nearby are Toledo Bend Lake, Vernon Lake and Anacoco Lake for those interested in fishing, boating, swimming etc.

You would develops specifications/drawings into a comprehensive package for use by professional engineering staff. Perform and coordinates technical reviews of construction plans, maps, specifications, estimates for accuracy and functional layout. Utilizes the Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CADD) system as a working tool to prepare construction drawings. Analyzes the subject, phase, or issues involved in each assignment to adjust or deviate from standard work methods based on situations and conditions at a field or work site; and to coordinate and plan phases of the assignment. Interprets and analyze considerable data, plan work, or refine methods and techniques to determine the best course of action for problem resolution.  Responsible for storage accessibility and reproduction of engineer plans and completed project files, for ordering and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies to support reproduction of engineering plans and records, engineering equipment and office supplies.

In order to qualify for Engineering Technician (Civil), GS-0802-9, you must meet one of the following: reviewing engineering plans and specifications for engineering projects (e.g. electrical distribution systems, mechanical utility systems; construction alterations, rehabilitation of buildings, roads, structures for compliance with federal and state regulations; preparing construction estimates, engineering plans, specifications; conducting construction inspections for contracts compliance with engineering plans, contractual obligations).

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas.

· Knowledge of the Principles of Engineering

· Knowledge of Engineer Plans Review and Modification

· Ability to utilize Engineering related automated Systems

 

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a non-temporary General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

 

Qualifications requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR GS-09: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.Time in Grade Restriction: Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS 08 grade (or equivalent).

The experience requirements for the GS-9 level may be met by completion of two (2) years of graduate level education or a masters degree in a position-related field such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology.

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
