Electrical Engineer at Hahnville

Job Description

The Dow Chemical Companyhas an opening for a Senior Electrical Maintenance Engineer at its Hahnville, Louisianalocation. Electrical Engineers at Dow provide technical support to the operation and maintenance of production facilities. Engineering responsibilities also include safety in design, use of up-to-date technology, and sound economic judgments to sustain efficient plant operations and maintenance. In this role, the engineer provides technical expertise which may be equipment based or repair technique based which impacts the availability and maintainability of the facility.

The Electrical Engineer works closely with Electrical Technologists, Electricians, Reliability Engineers, Maintenance Engineers, Maintenance Technicians and Preventive Predictive Maintenance (PPM) Coordinators to help solve equipment reliability issues. The Electrical Engineer also works with Run Plant, Technology Implementation for Competitive Advantage (TICA) and Engineering Solutions to generate and implement improvement projects. After-hours troubleshooting assistance, serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and providing coverage during plant turnarounds and major equipment overhauls are also key responsibilities of the electrical engineer.

Results are achieved by focusing on those opportunities that are impacting production.The electrical engineer is expected to develop knowledge and experience on all electrical equipment in use at St. Charles Operations. The selected candidate will have experience in maintenance of industrial plant electrical systems up to and including high voltage distribution. Work history will include experience in protective relaying for electrical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to plant maintenance activities by serving as technical resource on repairs and maintenance and in providing input in decisions effecting the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Utilize available technologies to assess health of operating equipment and develop an action plan for issues identified by on-line testing.
  • Analyze results of de-energized electrical testing to determine acceptability for placing equipment in service after maintenance and repair.
  • Participate as Maintenance Representative on electrical projects.
  • Participate in commissioning, testing, and pre-energization audits of new equipment.
  • Participate in periodic audits of operating electrical equipment to ensure compliance with corporate and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead review of transformer oil sample results and in identifying actions based on recommendations from the test lab.
  • Provide relay setting recommendations or serve as a reviewer of relay setting changes on new equipment.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in 2-3 electrical equipment groups such as motors, generators, switch gear, cable, UPS systems, battery systems, and high voltage systems.
  • Provide leadership to less experienced engineers and to electrical discipline employees.

Job Requirements

Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineeringis required.
  • Extended hours and possible shift work are to be expected during periods of high workload such as plant turnarounds.
  • Minimum of 15 years ofexperience in maintenance, projects, and/or operations of industrial electrical power systems is preferred. Of the 15, at least 8 years in maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience with ETAP (or similar electrical modeling program), in short circuit studies, and in relay settings & coordination is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in maintenance or operations of 15KV (or greater) systems is preferred.
  • Solid interpersonal, technical, and leadership skills.
Assets
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Experience in maintenance or operations of high voltage (>/= 138KV) systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in ETAP and in relay settings & coordination
  • Experience in arc flash calculations/arc flash energy mitigation
  • Experience in applying Six Sigma methodology
A minimum requirement for this U.S. - based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident or qualifying Asylee / Refugee).
