Job Description
To provide subject matter expertise including the provision of high level and complex technical expertise and strategic input to the Corporation on process safety.
Performs advisory and consulting work for the organization as a recognized authority in process safety for existing manufacturing sites and major projects, through influence of Site Management Teams, Global Manufacturing Team and major project management teams.
Responsibilities
- Provides strategic input and influence to Corporation on Process Safety Management through the GMT, SMT of each location/region.
- Provides expert advice and interpretation on international process safety related standards and guidelines. Advises the Corporation on appropriate external standards and guidelines to be applied and ensures effective implementation at the Manufacturing locations, working through and influencing the SMT and local process safety expert.
- Identifies where internal global standards are required in order to ensure effective management of process safety risk. Leads development of these standards in conjunction with regional process safety staff and the GMT.
- Provides process safety related subject matter expertise as an auditor in the Global Responsible Care Audit Program.
- Supports Project development through participation in Project Process Hazard Analysis such as What-if and HAZOP studies.
- Participates in Project pre-start-up reviews such as Operational Readiness Review, to ensure that critical process safety aspects are in place prior to plant start-up.
- Visits manufacturing site locations on a scheduled basis to provide support to management and build relationships.
- Conduct proactive reviews of site issues that may affect plant process safety. Additionally propose process or operating changes to improve the site process safety management program.
- Assist site specific needs during TAR planning providing technical input on process safety systems that require review and also support in related engineering improvements.
- Develops global metrics that track process safety performance, develops trend analysis and identifies areas for improvement.
- Work with the manufacturing site process safety experts in the development of process safety education and training content.
- Attends and presents at key conferences in order to stay abreast of emerging technology and best practices and to foster strong external networks.
- Maintains and advances corporate knowledge of process safety systems, techniques and technological advances.
- Effectively transfers knowledge and know-how (coaching, training, conference) internally, covering one or more broad themes, beyond his/her every day job. Actively develop process safety experts at manufacturing locations.
- Develops and manages portion of Global Expert Team opex budget related to process safety.
- Coach and mentor high professionals (HiPros) at the operating sites and provide assessment on achievements and competencies.
- Participate and represent company during any PSM regulatory compliance audits or investigations demonstrated through feedback from team and leaders.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
- Specialist knowledge in process safety management systems and technologies.
- Extensive experience coaching and mentoring within area of expertise within site, within country and/or internationally.
