Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.Basic Requirement:  A degree in industrial hygiene; or in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. NOTE: COURSES IN THE HISTORY OR TEACHING OF CHEMISTRY ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.  orA combination of education and experience that, when combined, meets the basic requirements for this position. My education included at least 12 semester hours of course work in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours as specified in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. My experience was obtained in field, laboratory, engineering, or another environment that provided me a means of obtaining a professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely related sciences such as physics and engineering controls. I have experience in all of the following areas: the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative data, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the data acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendation of appropriate controls, including management, medical, engineering, education or training, and personal protective equipment.Minimum Qualifications:For the GS-09Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: ·  Conducting routine surveys and evaluation of occupational health and related safety hazards; ·  Preparing reports of surveys and evaluations; ·  Participating in Industrial Hygiene committees and working groups; ·  Maintaining Industrial Hygiene records; and ·  Reviewing regulatory requirements.·  OR·  have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree or equivalent graduate degree.·  For the GS-11·  Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Executing Industrial Hygiene programs (i.e. Confined Space Entry, Mold Remediation, or Respiratory Protection); ·  Selecting standard methods and procedures for routine surveys;  ·  Acting as representative at Industrial Hygiene committees, meetings, working groups; ·  Identifying and evaluating occupational hazards and recommending control measures; and  ·  Providing instruction and training on Industrial Hygiene and related safety matters.

Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal.   If you possess a security clearance, please indicate the level and termination date in your resume.A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.Physical Demands:  The work requires inspections and surveys of work places and field operations, requiring the incumbent to carry a considerable amount of equipment, and involves a good deal of walking, standing, bending, and climbing.Work Environment:  During inspections or surveys, there is regular exposure to all of the hazards and discomforts to which the workers are subjected, including a wide range of potentially toxic chemicals, physical stresses, and safety hazards.  The incumbent must use a variety of protective equipment and clothing, such as respirators, earplugs, gloves, coveralls, hard hats, etc.  In an office environment, the work is predominantly sedentary requiring computer work and filing.  In a classroom environment, the incumbent will be standing a majority of the time.
